For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law. Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Neh. 8:9-10
Nehemiah called God’s people to celebrate a special time of giving to one another, to eat and drink and be together with family to rejoice over the fact that they were God’s people. He commanded them to allow God’s own joy to become their own.
This was also one of the last prayer requests of our Lord just before He was arrested and crucified – “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” (Jn. 15:11).
Do you allow God to fill you with His joy or do you try to achieve joy through your own accomplishments?
We invite you to a week-long celebration of worship, Bible study, fellowship and fun planned to help each Christian to be filled with the joy of the Lord, of Jesus and of the Holy Spirit.
